How to Design Products that Customers Love

Steve will discuss the fundamentals of user experience design and how it can improve overall product design and success in the marketplace. Steve will also discuss how product managers can best recruit and leverage user experience designers.

The discussion will include:

  • Usability Testing
  • Interaction Design
  • High-Resolution Prototyping
  • How to Screen for True UX Design Skills
  • How UX and PM Work Together


Steve Ballard has spent over ten years refining the practice of User Experience Design to make technology products more useful, usable and enjoyable. He specializes in applying a user-centered approach to designing products and services that delight the people who use them. Steve has experience in all aspects of User Experience Design including; User Research, Personas, Interaction Design, Prototyping, Visual Design and Usability Testing.

Steve is currently the Director of User Experience at AtTask, a leading provider of web based project management software. Prior to AtTask he spent eight years as a Sr. Interaction Designer at Ancestry.com, leading many key product design initiatives from research and concept through to design and implementation. Steve is also a member of the Interaction Design Association and teaches Interaction Design at Utah Valley University.

May Roundtable Luncheon

The Utah Product Management Association (UPMA) Rountable Luncheon is this Thursday, May 13th, starting at 11:30AM. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, ask questions, and give input to the future of UPMA. It is also an opportunity to commiserate with other product managers.

We will be meeting at China House at 177 West 12300 South, Draper, UT (facing West on 123rd South just off of I-15 toward South Jordan).
